He has some moments of utter genius, but sometimes I just can't get past the pretentious characters and the fact that a lot of teenagers just don't talk like that. <br />The worst thing about hype is that it can ruin the experience of reading a good book. This one is still on my to-read list though :)Anna Scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12819871419555450689noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4939144455618519194.post-6570524247311515562012-04-17T12:24:49.432-06:002012-04-17T12:24:49.432-06:00the hype surrounding both John Green himself and t...the hype surrounding both John Green himself and this book has not made me want to check his stuff out. I can see how it can be a little bit too clichéd, but I might just read this book in the future. I'm not a huge fan of cancer, but hey! At least I'll give it a try eventually!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4939144455618519194.post-4707433570096816482012-04-16T19:51:45.878-06:002012-04-16T19:51:45.878-06:00I actually just read this one too! Fortunately, cancer books are not exactly my normal genre, so I wasn't bored by it. I'm sad you didn't like it, but no book is for everyone and you wrote a great review!Katehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01832951560443028694noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4939144455618519194.post-46380719558365646502012-04-16T04:18:33.637-06:002012-04-16T04:18:33.637-06:00I haven't read any John Greene and it's be...I haven't read any John Greene and it's because of the hype. I'm a bit worried that if I start with this one I'll end up being traumatized because I don't do well with books about cancer. I can't handle them regardless of how cliched they can be.Lanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00002224549199474383noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4939144455618519194.post-75350498693937009792012-04-16T01:26:01.868-06:002012-04-16T01:26:01.868-06:00I get where you're coming from. The Fault in Our Stars was the first John Green book I read, so not only did it carry the weight of its own hype, but also the hype about Green books in general. I did really like TFIOS - there's nothing I dislike about it, but I couldn't help feeling like "Oh...is that it?", because of all my expectations.TGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17832981435264804886noreply@blogger.com
